Although poo in standard guise there used to be a couple of these up lakeside which were quite obviously tuned because they were animal, raping most other cars on the strip, a red one in particular.
The S3 is a much better/faster car also has around 220bhp where as the golf is 150 iirc...
Aye the S3 is different, over 200 out the box and will map to about 260 with basic mods and a map.
My mate had a mapped one for a bit and it was alot better than my old Ibiza Cupra. 4WD as well which is always good in the winter
I wouldn't mind a well tuned S3...
I thought the Audi S3s were supposed to be 265bhp 'out of the showroom'? I had a number of Golf GTIs in my younger days. IMO, they're a fairly good all-rounder, with tuning potential. I'd only go for a Mk5 or Mk6, but it depends upon what you want from it.

Tell him to learn to drive it properly then. I have a gt tdi running 350 lbft, still on the original DMF with over 150k on it, no issues with the DMF at all, more issues with the standard sachs clutch not coping.
No mate they're all crap because his mates had a remap and now the clutch slips and can't drive economically.
That's impresive he must have a bad one I'm only going off what i have seen what mpg you getting
