I would person weld a bracket to the sides to hold the Fan ! This is what i have seen in the past and my friend has done
just got an alloys rad and removed the old one right size etc but found theres no holes for the fan. Shall i just make four holes and fit the fan to the new rad.
it sould'nt cause any problems as im only drilling into the frame not the coils.

use metal cable ties. will be fine.
if its only the edge then yes. id do that and whack some 6mm nuts and bolts threw.

as plastic zip ties have a tendency to break is all. i would want my fan falling off when im giving it some beans. Just my opinion though.
you can get theses pads that you tie onto your rad through the core then the tie onto the fan they use them on kit cars so i shore they will hold on a punto.
well i managed to fit the the fan and rad (after ripping my hands to shreds) all i did was cut the original plastic screw holes off the fan and drilled four holes in the frame and bolted the fan to the rad using original bolt holes. more secure than original then it was lined up with the original fixing on the front of the car and just secured it to that so works a treat now.
lets hope it makes a difference.
May I ask where you got it?
1997 Fiat Punto GT Abarth - being restored
2014 Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake
i got it off ebay.
do they actually make a difference. got it brand new
