MG doesn't look as gay as the MX5 though.
now stop being big poofters and go and buy a S1 Elise, can pick them up for under £10k now
Julie and I have driven both the MX5 and the MG(F), both in the 1.8 form.
I don't know about Julie but my thoughts....
MX5:
- Unfortunate gay associations
- Has and probably always will have only a moderate amount of power <150 bhp for the 1.8.
- Bland interior, basic
- Usually poorly specced if uk model
- Keeps it's value impeccably
- Engines and car last forever with Mazda build quality and dealers are excellent
- Possibly the best 2wd chassis in that price range for the last 20 years
- Did I mention the excellent chassis?!
- Good general car all around
MGF:
- Hoods are prone to cracking on some of the earlier models
- Lose value quickly, especially in light of recent events at Rover MG!
- Buyer confidence in them low
- Handling can be lacklustre
- Exhaust note isn't as nice as the MX5
- Dirt cheap and engines not as bad as people make out, if they've been looked after
- Specced to the hilt usually, all extras
- Look nicer in my opinion
- Faster in a straight line
- Mid engine vvt is nice when revved right out
Overall? I'd have had the MX5 no contest. However, I felt it was seriously lacking in power, which arguably makes it a better car as you concentrate on driving it properly. Rear wheel drive is good fun, and even a monkey like me could have the back out on a long roundabout, despite the lack of power... the chassis just rewards you.
Longer term, it's an excellent buy in my opinion. Buy a special edition if you can though, these do fetch a premium.
No. I'm 6ft4 and the cramped postion was OK for just taking it round the block, but couldn't take it as an everyday drive.Originally Posted by Puntoboy
I'd save up and get an Elise if I wanted a car of that type, but I don't.
