Biggest problem I see is, it's still well north of 7 degrees here
I agree though, the snow isn't expected for another few weeks.
Chris .. are you saying there's no heavy snow in the south east or something?
I have bought a set of wheels and Nokian winter tyres for the Jag. I've already noticed a huge improvement in grip and stability now the weather has dropped below 7c.
It's a bit early to discount any snow this year. Last year it was snowy up till late February/March up here.
I guess it all depends how much driving you do and whether you really have to once the snow hits the ground but as mentioned, it's not just about snow. Below 7c the efficiency of most summer tyres is greatly reduced so winter tyres are better.
But as with anything you need to take a look at your own situation. I live in a village and drive all over the UK for my job. I also live in the Midlands which IMO is usually one of the most southerly areas to get snow. If I lived in a town in the south east I wouldn't bother with winter tyres.

I kept my winter tyres off until Christmas Day when the weather turned here. It's been at most 8c here since when I've been driving that is.
I'm not saying it doesn't snow in the SE I'm saying that it's rarely as severe as it is the further north you go. I definitely wouldn't bother if I lived in a major city.

But it's not just snow they are designed for!
Dude! No chains and you managed to get thru that? Thats crazy! You said you went thru bits where no other cars had been, but what was it like in compressed snow/ice with fresh snow on top? You know like how you get on side roads?
I'm impressed
I hear they work well when its colder than 8 degrees too
i expect that van was constantly pushing a block of snow a few feet thick along in front it presumably it must limit airflow to the rad?
doubt he would have got as far if the van had only been front drive.......winter tyres on or not
good hard winter Q car then kangoo 4 wheel drive.......

Ahh, i didnt see that it was 4x4!
Dude, airflow to the rad? When there's 2 foot of snow being pushed into it? Come on now
exactly so you expect the engine temp to rise......
Or the thermodynamic effect of the snow melting on the rad would keep it cool?
Hahaha! I dunno I'm chatting breeze
