If t'were the leads the wrong way around, it would cause problems starting, and not just under load, would it not?
I'm guessing it's running carbs, so I would be tempted to look there, initially.
Right got a little problem with my mums triumph stag it went in for a clutch bout 2 weeks ago and it was running absolutely fine before it went in obversely clutch slipping a little. Got the car back on Monday and since then it coughs and spluttering when under load in 2nd or 3rd gear but when it's idling its running fine I changed the leads incase they was starting to break down but still have the same prob ?? I'm gonna check the garage put the leads the right way round cos I just followed lead for lead when I swapped them over for the new set any help would be very much appreciated guys!!
Cheers Antoni

Yeh that's what I thought of mate! Yeh carbs mate it had an engine conversion in the mid 80's by the last owner from the v8 to a v6 ford Capri 3liter
Might be worth having a look at the air/fuel mix? If it's struggling under load, it sounds as though it may be being starved of fuel.
I'll have a look tomorrow
plugs and points would be the first thing i would change on any old car
