Sounds like the backlight has gone kaput!
Hopefully someone can help me out.
Iv'e got a Dell Vostro A860 Laptop, the problem with it, is the screen, its just dim, I can see what is on the screen but only if i take the cover case off and hold it up to the light, or shine a light behind it.
the problem arose when i put the computer to sleep using the FN F1 command, at first i thought it was the inverter, so i changed it fro a brand new one, this worked fine, until i put the computer to sleep again. So im back to square one.
Restarting the laptop does nothing, the screen stays dark.
I will say that when i left the laptop over night and tried to turn it on again, the screen came on for about 2 seconds, then went black again,
Its running Vista if that helps.
Any information would be great.
Thanks

Generally brightness setting on laptops are done by holding a certain key and pressing the up and down arrow to adjust it.
Have a search around the keys to find what looks like a sunshine symbol normally painted on in dark blue.
Its a Dell. Just asking for trouble there
Nothing wrong with Dell. I've had a few and not had a single issue. HP and Dell make the best standard laptops out there.

I dont think the back light has gone, as the screen does light up for a few seconds on startup, so surely that cant be it? And yes, thank you, I have checked the brightness settings
Do 'Fn' plus Up and Down arrow keys change the brightness? There may be another couple of Fn action keys at the lower right side too. Otherwise, it could be advanced Power Manager settings for when running on battery.
I have a Dell mini *COUGH* Hackintosh *COUGH*!
Okay, bit of an update I guess, no light comes on at all now, if that changes anything :P
