just be a man and get chipping at it with the chisel, and some degreaser to clean the last bits of residue.
Now I'm sure some of you will just say why bother, but I've been looking at quicker and easier ways to remove the bitumen sound proofing found on the interior of the Punto.
It seems that dry ice is the easiest way. You can either buy some dry ice and apply it to the bitumen then chip it off or get the area blasted with dry ice (similar to sand/media blasting - except using dry ice) which separates the bitumen from the metal and you just sweep it up.
I've just emailed a few companies for a price but it's not looking cheap unless we can gather a few cars together that want it doing. I'll keep you posted.

Been there, done that. I did it that way on my last shell before I found the serious rot issue.

Wouldn't using a hot air gun eventually enable you to peel the pads off? Just speculating.
Most of mine came off like that, but some wouldn't chip off at ambient temp.

use a heat gun on a scraper, that makes it so much easier!
We use the ice blasting boys at work, it wouldnt be powerful enough to remove whole layers of bitumen.
As said before, heat guns make it worse.

An old wood chisel makes easy work if its cold.
