i've got pretty much the same setup apart from i have a Phillips 37''.
Cant fault the xbox HD setup, picked the player up for £25!! It even plays normal DVD's 6x better no no complaints!!!
I've finally entered the high definition world and bought myself a 42" Toshiba 1080p LCD TV which came with a glass stand and an upscalling DVD player. I've also just bought a HD DVD player for my Xbox 360 seeing as you can pick up loads of cheap HD DVD's on eBay etc.
Apologies for the poor quality picture, my new phone doesn't take good pics in poor lighting. This doesn't do the TV justice at all.
The HD pictures are amazing, playing COD4 (COD5 is coming for Christmas from my sister) is so much better now, you can see so much more detail. I also downloaded the Red Alert 3 demo and the video sequences are so clear! At the moment I've only got one HD DVD that came with the player, Fearless starring Jet Li, but I've got The Fast and the Furious and Full Metal Jacket on order and should arrive next week.
I watched Fearless Friday night and the quality is brilliant, but I'm wondering whether older films converted to HD are going to be as good as films shot in HD.
I've watched a couple of DVD's on the upscalling DVD player and noticed that newer films, like the Matrix for example, upscale better than older films, I tried it with Days of Thunder. Whilst they say it should upscale to HD quality, the picture isn't HD quality but it is clearer than a normal DVD, so I'm happy at least
I'm intending to build a Media Centre PC in the next few months with a Blu-Ray burner so I'll be able to watch them as well

you nerd! Most new films do look better when played on the hd player or on the ps3.
apparently a lot of films were shot in HD from the offset... for example 'The Goonies'
the reason your upscaling looks better on newer dvds is that the standard def old movies were a much poorer quality conversion, mainly because they were taken from acetaite(sp) to vhs / dvd, whereas an old film originally shot in HD will be of good quality either way
Ive just bought a 37" too, not watched any hd dvd's yet, but massive difference on the gaming scale, also it makes your realise how poor quality digital tv actually is :/
