    SMOKE! and lots of it

    This has happened twice now.

Basically, on the motorway yesterday i was letting the car rev up close to the limiter (6k plus revs, through 2, 3, and 4th). When it got very close to the limiter on 4th, all power went and white thick smoke plummed out of the exhaust. Power dropped dramatically for a few seconds, i pulled over for 1 minute and it was fine.

This is the second time its done this, i rarely push the car through the revs, but occasionally on A roads, i will to get the car moving upto 70mph. Bearing in mind at 80mph the car sits at 5k revs.

    Any idea whats happening?

do a compression test to make sure, cos white smoke is burning water/oil is it not?

white smoke is usually not smoke but steam then Beau?

Maybe you have a worn camshaft and your getting a poor overlap at high RPM and the engine has a major cough.

on my old sporting wen i had hg failure there was so much smoke its unreal but my temp gauge was reading into the red. what the temps like? do a compression test to rule it out id say. wat about loose water pipes, if the pressure is building up that much at high revs then falling onto the downpipe/mani that will cause alot of steam. fingers crossed its not the headgasket.

Run th car with the header tank cap of.

    Does the water bubble?
Can you smell exhaust fumes in there?

This sounds like the HG but dan has a valid point also.
