Try tweaking your MTU settings
this site is great , www.dslreports.com , go here and do a tweak test , it will tell you everything you can do to improve your connection, you will need to download a program called DrTcp to change the settings on your network adapter
failing that , check that you have the router as close as possible to the main BT phone box, an extra 5 meters of cable can cost you 1mb of speed.
I replaced the whole of my homes cable with high quailty copper my speeds (aol) went from 4.5mb to 7.8mb! just from changing cable!
then about a month later out main line, from the pole outside , fell down , BT came to replace it, with new cable, my speed went up to 8.4mb!
so that is the fastest ADSL you can get, anything higher you need ADSL 2
my point is :
check your cables , old phone can also cause slow speeds! (try your router with NO phones plugged in
Opitmize your network card!
By the way am an IT technician so i'm just chattin poop!
good luck!
have you maxed out your dowlnoad limit?Originally Posted by squirrel
Chris what sort of wire goes to your house, i.e, whats it look like(dont just say black lol, if you can take a pic of it and upload it, depsnds what wire it is can have an effect.
lol thats what i have just explained above, wire denistys have are a major factor of speed!!!
use CAT5e cable instead of standard phone line, its thicker , OBV you only need to wire up 4 wires (using for phone) not all 8 that are in the cat5 cable
but if your over you D/L limit it will also drop right down till your next billing date!
