Arrived in SA!

Flights were a bit crappy but meh, they always are. Got here in the end. Weather is nice and warm but not too warm - it's cloudy now and about 18 C. Expecting low 20s for the rest of the weekend. Which is handy, will ease me into the crazy heat that they can get over here.

You guys would love it. Just on the drive home from the airport I know most of you would. Motorways are smooth and well maintained. Long sweeping corners, tight ones too, mountain passes, gorgeous scenery - it's like playing sega rally or something. What really emphasised the difference for me was when we stopped off at a retail park to buy a present for my cousin's birthday today - you know the type of thing, a big car park, with various largeish chain stores around the edge. (If you live in surrey/sussex - think of halfords in crawley, near dixons and currys etc etc.)

The difference is that in the UK, you look out away from the shops in those areas and you see packed roads, and industrial estates and warehouses - over here, look away from the shops and there's just open grass stretching all the way to the mountains in the distance. It's striking.

My uncle's place is huge, and gorgeous. Electric gates, enough parking for about 5 cars, balcony, swimming pool, absolutely TONS of room inside. I got the "spare room" and it's bigger than the largest room in our house in the UK. Apparently it cost the same as when he had a 2 bed flat in London. You get way more for your money over here.

Havent taken any real pics so far - yesterday I arrived late afternoon/evening and it's now the morning of day 2 - but here's a taster.
