laptop help please

getting this message when i turn it on,

windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
\windows\system32\confing\system
you can attempt to repair this by using the original cd rom select "r" at the first screen to repair.

last time i used it i was listening to music and turned the power off by holding the button while the music was playing, maybe i damaged it doing this.

i have tried loading from last known configuration but it says the same thing and also safe mode.
i dont have an original disk because it came pre loaded but i have a copied disk with a serial number that has worked before on another computer

i have used this disk and gone into repair mode but it just gives a prompt c:windows\ and waits for something..
i have also tried to re install windows with the disc but it says it cannot detect a valid windows disk even though it loads all the setup when you start the machine.

just cant think of anything else to try with it, has anyone got any ideas?
