    1st Gen iPod Problems

I recently acquired a 1st gen iPod and I'm having a few problems with it.

First thing is that the battery doesn't last very long at all and sometimes it will turn off saying the battery is flat, but if I turn it back on again it will be OK for another half our or so. I think it's the battery at fault.

Secondly some of the music has been corrupted. I'll add a load of tracks which play perfectly on my laptop, but when it comes to play then on the iPod some song with stop randomly and skip to the next track. Most songs are OK it's just the odd few that do it. I noticed that when I plug it into my laptop is will occasionally say that the disk has errors and would I like to scan it. Could if be a problem with the memory in the iPod or could the two problems be part of the same thing?

    Any ideas?

iPods do have terrible batteries, they last like new for a year and thats it.
You can crack it open and fit a new one, plenty of videos on youtube of how to do it

As for the corruption, try using the restore to factory settings option in iTunes then start over again

True I guess, but I reckon they would either charge me the earth, or try to sell me a new one.
