    Whats wrong with HGT's?

ok heres the situation, girlfriend wants a new car, shes selling here polo for bout £4k and wants a clio.

but ive been looking and tbh HGTs are so cheap now that a clio seems silly.

so heres my Question, you can pick up a 50000mile HGT for £2000-£2500 fully loaded with aircon, sat nav and more toys.

Why? whats wrong? are they unreliable? will it blow up before 80000 miles?

just seems alot of car for little money incomparison to clios and shite.

personaly i liked how it drove, its not slow and i think there just loads for sale mate!

the reson i kept the gt was because the hgt is nowhere nr as fun to drive as the gt, not a quick, not as gokarty ... lol u know what its like when u love a gt !

Anyways i have searched on this forum and mk2 forum a number of times for faults etc, i think theres a couple of things that go wrong but nothing major....

Your girlfriend will enjoy the hgt !( depending on her current car) But i will admit i did like the way it drove!

I hated my HGT it handled ok and was nice to drive when it was working properly anyway.

    Was dissapointed overall though.

Id go for a civic or something like that.

the hgt will need an uprated variator fitted at the same time as a new cambelt at that sort of mileage
other than that check the flexi on the downpipe and that should be about it
strong service history would be something high on my list.
