My house mate asked me how its done. Couldnt answer his question and it got me thinking. How is it done?

We want to set a little test up to see if my computer can break into my mates computer (which is in the next door room to me).

There are many types of hacking.
If you are talking about hacking into another a computer that is on the same network, that shouldn't be too hard. If you are trying to do it over Wifi, then you will have to hack that first.

thats easy people are stupid,,,, i can get onto the computer and veiw files from an "encripted" [sp] wifi network

also knowing the default ip addreses and user name and password for different routers also helps

In my little bugger days i used to use Sub7, not the best but allows you to take controll of their computer.

All you needed to do was send a file to them when they open it, it will send you their IP number and you put that into sub7 and bingo

but can you do it without knowing the user names/passwords?

My mate has a file called thebet!.doc saved in his documents

He is not part of the same network and has a fix connection

He has bet me £5 that I cant get it and read him what the doc says.

What do I need to do?
Get his IP?

All you needed to do was send a file to them when they open it, it will send you their IP number and you put that into sub7 and bingo

sub7 is for script kiddies lol......

for example.... a house near me has an encripted network. "fester"for example...... if you log onto your own router and enter "fester" into the wep-keygen... it will give ou a hexi bunch of numbers (silly people tend to use the same thing as there password also lol). there when you rescan the area and try to enter the "festor" network it will ask for the wep key.... enter thenumbers from the hexi keygen and if your lucky (or the person is dumb) you'll be given an ip address..... and even better you be able to access the net..

now when you get a ip address like .192.168.0.34 (default netgear ip range)

enter 192.168.0.1 into your address bar and you should be prompted to enter the router login user name and password..... (if ther person hsn't chnged it) its ADMIN then password.....

now ur in.... change your workgroup to WORKGROUP or MSHOME (default ms workgroups and you'll be able to see files if there shared) once you can log onto the router you can block them! lol

not hackin' as such. just usin' ur head... sorry for the long post.....
