you need to know the aol ppoe settings. then access the router config page usually (192.168.1.1) enter details and your aol login/pass.
Ive just bought a Edimax ADSL ethernet router and cant get it to work, ive read the instructions and still no luck.
I have AOL boradband using a BT modem that uses USB to connect to the PC. I presumed that the router would take the place of the modem?
Here is what i have done so far.
The router is plugged in, Adsl line is plugged in, an ethernet cable goes from the router to the PC. And done all the configuration advised by the usless instructions and im still unable to connect to the internet still.
1. Does the router have to be connected to the modem or is the modem not needed anymore?
2.If the BT modem is required is there a way to connect it to the router as there is no USB connection on the router.
Any help would be great.

the router takes its place. the router is basically a modem but can distribute the output to other pcs because it should have a few ethernet ports at the back rather than one
yes it has 4 ethernet ports and a ADSL port.Originally Posted by H8T WP

why does AOL have to make things complicated for networking.

AOL are fickle when it comes to which router you can use with their service!
but as already said, so long as you config your router for AOLs settings and put in your username and password, you shouldnt have any problems!
Is the ADSL light lit on the router?
What model router?
A silly question, I know, but not all routers have an in-built modem.
AOL Screen names and passwords have to conform to a specific pattern to work with aol.

I will be happy to help you as I have 3 computers sharing a router (Belkin) on AOL silver
the above setup also uses normal internet explorer and not the aol software it works quite well.
