    Insurance Claims and Modifications

A Taxi man went in to the side of my car about a month ago. He pulled out of a side junction without looking and dent the passenger side door and rear quarter.

Now the insurance is in the process of writing the vehicle off. But when I taken the car for inspection the company sent pictures to the insurance. Now I’ve received a letter stating I have undeclared modification to the car. Rear Tinted window and non-standard rear lights.

The insurance want a letter of explanation as to why I didn’t tell them about the modifications, confirmation of when they were fitted supported with a receipt and a copy of the V5 and purchase receipt.

Anyone been in this situation before and what’s the best thing to say so they don’t void my insurance?

    All help is appreciated.

Even though I’m claiming off the Taxi mans insurance?

I declared the Alloys. I just disregard the rear lights and thought I could have got away with the lights.

yeh, they will try anyway to get out of paying out.

i dnt really know wot u can do.

u cud say that u did call up to declare them, and that the person u spoke to on the other end of the phone sed that everything has been updated and that ur now covered for your mods.

Its worth a try,coz most of the time they will give up.

People do it at our work.

Good idea. I did ring up for a quote for adding them modifications but the person never rang me back. So that could work.

When you say “give up” do you mean the insurance will give up and give in possibly?

Yeh,people try it at my work all the time, they will say they called in,and we will say no u didnt,so we will try and find the call record for it,and then when we can find it we will adv the cust of this,Then they will say well i defo called, its not my fault u aint got the call record. And if they push it hard enuff, then we just give up and pay out the cashback or wotever it is.

I do it when i ring orange all the time.

If u persist u can get anything.

Dnt know wether this wud be differentas its 000`s of £`s but i suppose it works in the same way.

Better than u just doing nothing tho and admitting defeat.

Lol. Yeah it is better than admitting I didn’t declare them.

How long do you think they keep the call record for?

Is the record a log of the conversation or just the time, number etc?
