    golf gti mk3

    ok

    shes a 2.0l 16v, contemplating buying it and using it as everyday car to then strip my punto and rebuild it.

    what are peoples takes on this...?

    The 16v's are pretty decent and have decent performance too. You should see good economy as well when your not booting her. Mark 3's tend to be a bit sparce on interior goodies such as electric windows etc, unless you pay the extra dosh for them. A lot of people rated them only as the performance GTi of the mark 3 age. Due to the VR6 technically not being a GTi and the 8v being pi55 poor. They came with 150 bhp as standard too, which is nice. Oh your probably better upgrading the suspension as it's not great out of the box, but theres plenty of options (some cheap) and once done it transforms the car too.
