No, nothing. I did have Norton, but when i put XP on it said Norton had been used to many times so i had to phone up and re activate.
But then i saw a few people on here only use windows security and that was good enough, so ive never bothered with anything else.
    Should I?

Definitely! i would not reply on windows xp firewall even if you do have service pack 2 installed, Norton imo is crap and the paying for updates thing i think is a ripoff, Norton bought out Sygate which had a good free firewall for download like zonealarm, but its no longer free which is a shame

I have isntalled and setup quite a few PC runnings XP with sp2 and just by connecting to the internet without a 3rd party firewall they have recieved spyware and other nasty bugs without even doing anything, i remember seeing some casino stuff just pop up on the desktop etc... try zonealarm free, not sure if its trial but might be worth buying http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conten...eeDownload.jsp

This is what I run and I have no problems while connected to the internet, virus protection is AVG free (like most i think) and firewall is Sygate pro firewall, also windows firewall is on, and also have built in firewall in router, also the usual spyware scanners.

But you could get away with just AVG and Sygate on their own. If i do a clean isntall of windows i always get these isntalled before connecting to the net.

LOL! The info you have given mattj_uk is good. But come on mate FREE AntiVirus and Firewall! Your getting what your paid for, NOTHING! IMO McAffee Is better then them and thats saying something. I repair computers for a living. Norton is one of the top brands on the market.

Its worth NOT being a cheap skate with AntiVirus and firewall, you'll pay the consiquences soon enough...

Cat its worth putting Norton back on ur computer. Yeh it might take a little longer to boot up your computer when first switched on but that will be more worth while then re-loading your computer all the time because of viruses and spyware etc..

look I dont appreciate being spoken down to ok! I run my own business aswell fixing and supporting comptuers/users! Norton is good I just dont like the fact that they charge for updates.

have you used AVG before? its very good for something that is free, ive always used it and had no problems with viruses.

I dont know if your aware but Norton bought out Sygate and now use the core of Sygates pro firewall as their own product.

I have a cisco router with built on NAT and Firewall, so i doubt very much they I will run into any trouble!

Ive been onsite to alot of big companies and they dont use Norton and McAffee or AVG, anyway you carry on wasting money and i'll stick with what I use.

these are better, in this order, still gotta pay for them though but better!

    F-Secure Anti-Virus
    BitDefender
    Kaspersky

Customers of NTL/Telewest (not sure about anybody else) can download a free peice of software called ntl Netguard which is offers realtime virus protection, Firewall, pop-up blocker, parental control, anti-spyware, privacy manager and a form filler. Even though its free and its software bundled (download) with NTL/Telewest connections its a damn good peice of software... I turned it off once, never again!

Combined with Mozilla FireFox I now have no problems what-so-ever. If you want to increase your PC security its always a good idea to dump Microsoft products as these are far too prevelent and almost all virus ever written are aimed at Microsoft products because, and I kid you not, most people don't even know there are alternatives out there, such is the massive Microsoft marketing machine!!

(and my use of grammer just went west too... Must be something to do with this 2ltr tub of half defrosted neopolitan icecream/mousse I'm eating!)

Yes, definately suffering from brain freeze. I forgot to add "Brain Freeze!" to the above sentence. Doh!
