if you are not looking to get it fixed, or try it, just get on ebay and look for a PCMCIA USB card. They are cheap in maplins, 6.99 for a 2.0 USB, so ebay should be cheaper.
What laptop is it?
My USB port on my Laptop has broken, it is really wobbly and i cant use wireless now.
Does anyone know if it is fixable and if it is what sort of prices i am looking at?
Im guessing it could perhaps be soldered back into place?

It is a Dell Latitude
Oh Right. They are pretty oldish, so have a go at taking it apart.
So does the USB plug in, but doesn't work? Or is it wobbly but works?
If you don't want to take it apart, either go for the PCMCIA USB card I suggested, or if you only ever use the USB for the wireless, get a PCMCIA wireless card.
Hi, my housemate took it apart yesterday but the port is to in deep he said. The USB port doesnt work at all now. I did get a connection if i wobbled it around, but now it is ****ed.
Where does wireless card go then?
You should have two slots on the side, about2.5 inches wide, with letterbox style opening. Thats th PCMCIA slots. If you put a wireless card in there, it won't stick out as much as the USB sticks, you mayb get faster speeds aswell, as I think you have USB 1.1, which is slow.
i have got two things which slot in that are like credit card shaped. Is thet where they go. Im not computer minded as you can tell.
So the wireless card you recommended is the one to get then.
Yeah, thats the slots.
Go for any make I would say. Just look at the transfer speeds.
It looks like it would be a good idea to get one that is compatible with 802.11g.

you could use ebay, or you can go to a maplins and get one less than 20 quid.
Thank you for yr help. x
just fit a new usb port. i'll a lot of screw though. :P
anyway, if it;s a horizontal plug that would be easy to find (maplin). If it is a vertical... it will be expensive!
