MK1 Uno engine is stronger, but is only 1301cc, therefore produces less power as standard. However there are some stupidly powerful mk1's around.

The mk2 produces less power than a GT engine however is almost identical. Its harder to tune due to no ECU.

The mk1 uno has 105bhp and mk2 118bhp, the vehicles are different shapes and both do have ecu's! The mk1 incidentally has two seperate ecu's one for fuel and one for ignition.

Mk1 lump can take more power than both the gt and mk2 uno but 180 - 200bhp will be much more expensive to extract from either mk1 or mk2 uno's due to no chips be availible/feasible. 200bhp ++ and it makes little odds to cost as standalone is the prefered choice but the gt/mk2 block would always be a worry.

As mentioned mk2 uno lump and the gt are very similar with only a few minor changes regarding the mechanical side of things. The gt can be chipped as we all know and for that reason is you're after sensible power to retain reliability and driveability then you're better off imo to stick with a seb'd gt.

Another thing that made me choose to build a GT engine for my Uno T is that the GT is newer, so in stead of basing my project on a lump from 1990, I am now building it on a lump from 1997..

Btw: My current Uno Turbo 1,4 engine with a T25 turbo does quite well so I am in no hurry finishing the GT engine
