jeeeez thats hot, my a64 3500+ is running 35-45*C overclocked from 2.2ghz to 2.4ghz
Its an athlon xp 3200+ 64bit, everything standard.
Its normally ran for days on end, with minimal off time. The other day it started reading 86degree cpu temp so immediatley i turned her off and started up an hour later, ran fine till the next day when it hit 95. Now whenever I start it up it is reading 102 - 120degrees c, with the fan spinning at 3300 rpm.
I have cleaned out the fan and heatsink, and could not touch the heatsink it was so hot. I was wondering is this likely to be a dodgey sensor, or the fan and heatsink past their prime? I am planning on getting an uprated fan/heatsink tomorrow.
I was under the impression even a few seconds at 100+ degrees would destroy the cpu, which made me think sesnor?
Ideas?

Get yourself a new heatsink first and see if that sorts it, as its the cheapest thing to try.
**** me and i thought mine running at 55c was hot.

let cool down remove heat sink apply thermal paste and stick a new fan on the cpu heatsink
I got one of these:
CPU was running at 45deg C but now runs at 31deg C.
Its a Thermaltake Sonic Tower 4-in-1 Noiseless Heatpipe (Socket 939/754/775/478) CPU Cooler and you can get it from here:

I'm sorted on what heatsink to get.
Its now sitting back down at 35 degress happily. Once theory was the thermal pad had dried up ... but then that means the heatsink would have been cool.
I think it may be a faulty cpu, but still I don't think it would last even a few seconds at 120 degrees!
Sounds like the sensor is giving false readings.
