if you not using it for performance then it don't matter what you get really.
If you using it for any thing like games, image/video editing then you'll want one with low seek times!
Looking for 200gb+, but the prices vary so much.
I can get a 300gb MAxtor for just over 70quid of the bay, but then a Western Digital 150GB goes for twice that!
Is there such a major difference in quality?
I'd only use it as a secondary drive, not for mu operating system.
Any suggestions on good ones?

Do a google search on pretty much any make of HDD and you'll find people who swear they are the worst and its better to go for <insert another manufacturer here>.Originally Posted by joey_turbo
For example, I was scared off Maxtor by a seemingly endless list of threads started by people who have had nothing but problems with them. I decided to bite the bullet and bought two 160gb SATA Maxtor drives and bar a slight problem which was partly my fault, they so far seem to be fine.
Go for either. They'll come with warranty so if you do have probs, you'll get it sorted (as long as you back up regularly, of course).
I've ordered this:

The 80gb I have now is a Maxtor and its been fine for two years despite what people say. I decided to not go for a SATA connection yet, even though my board can have it. I don't know what the benefits of SATA are, so I'm just sticking to what I know.
thanks for your input guys.
You should really have gone for the sata mate, if you've got sata on your motherboard. Its significantly quicker than IDE.
Yeah, I should have really, especially as boards in the future may take SATA connections only.
EDIT: cancelled the order, looking at SATA versions.

Not bad. I have two Maxtors and they are working fine. They produce nice heat hehe so I am not freezing in winter while sitting near.
