    Just cleaned....

...... All the dust/crap out of my PC case for the first time in three years of using it

I don't know anything about PC's, but it can't be good for them when all the heatsinks etc are clogged full of solid dust

anyways, I can now hear myself think over the sound of my PC running, and it seems to not be getting as stoopidly hot.

    Just thought I'd share that

if blew dust off it or wiped it oooooor brushed it dont do it again, quite a high possabliy of killing your pc through static electricity (i took electronic engineering at college)

i bought a couple of can of compressed air from ebay. handy things, even for working on the car.

I had some old airbsursh propellent lying around (compressed air, didn't really work) and blew the rest, did however wear an antistatic wriststrap throughout, hopefully that means it won't die

if you don't do this, and they do become clogged they will eventualy shut down when a maximum working temperature is achieved. Keep it clean.

Yep, I've noticed this happening for almost 10 months now as this room gets pretty damn hot, there's hardly anything by the way of cooling in this cheap machine anyway

But yes, the whole point of the thread was to comment on the fact that it's worth taking 5 mins to do

and re: the wrist strap, just left it plugged in and turned off and clipped myself to the chassis as I had to rip the memory out etc and was told I should. I know little about PC's but the old man works in SMT so I had it lying around anyway
