mark 2 owners +any form of punto owners club?????????????

hallo guys, just stumbled on this site, first descent punto one i've seen. I used to have a GT, silver one (M234 YGT if it is still around) i fitted 17's and the usuall dump valve and air filter/exhaust combo. Good car but damn thing was about to blow, so i decided to chop it in against a mk2 sporting. a 2001 black one that was nice at first but not a match for my old gt, so after owning it for only 3 months and caning the **** out of it i chopped that in for a yellow HGT mk2. the gt was quick but the HGT is a lot more grown up, not as quick off the mark but the top end makes the gt look silly, size does matter. My mates still have gt's. One is a P plate midnight blue one with smoothed front end, morettes with custom eye brows, Black stilo abarth 17's, magnex exhaust, pipercross filter, lowered 70mm ON 17'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!, pace front mounted intercooler, vari-boost and FSE boost valve, and i would say the cleanest punto ever, only has 32000 miles on the clock! My other mate also has a midnight blue gt but on an M plate, this is a scruffy car on the outside at the moment but does have an abarth kit with rear Beast kit bumper. But the engine is something special, Original block with, Magnex exhaust, piper filter, pace intercooler, FSE boost valve, group a head gasket, Abarth racing head and matched Abarth cam imported from Italy by Avanti tuning, Samco hoses, Stage 3 Hybrid turbo, Bailey Recirculating D/Valve, custom van-aaken power boost chip, all fitted by ourselvesn and then set up, this thing is quick and will easily see off cossies up to about 60/70. not bad for £4000 once you,ve added in the cost of a cracked manifold, new phase sensor uprated fuel pump and all the usuall replacement parts used on an egine strip down.

Well enough of the intro, we have all been into punto's for years but can we find a club, no course not, but whilst up southend on the odd occassion we have seen the puntosports.co.uk stickers in the back of a few puntos and do remember seeing about 10 puntos parked together up there about 18 months ago. SO any clubs about????????????????????

Anything coming from Avanti is gonna be... er the truth

Stage 3 turbo....so who invents the stages then

    Abarth head....

    :S

Van Aaken boost chip.. Ive heard enough

Welcome anyway. Be careful what you hear and people tell you about tuning there is a lot of BS. Just as a guide there are no TRUE 200hp punto 1372s in this country at the moment. But many who claim 200hp! and without certain basic mods (none you mentioned) you'll never get safely past 160hp.

    hey welcome man
if you look in chat you will see that there has been some talk about getting a puntosports club started, think its still in the process of sorting out people to be in charge of all the different roles, not sure though.

your right avanti are shite, my mate rob who has the clean one he is a fiat mechanic and we took the tuned one up to avanti and they did'nt even have rolllers and we think they fitted the wrong chip because it ran like a bag of shite on the way home and they said that was the best htey could do, but van-aaken who i used to set up my old old old RS Turbo do specialise in punto's ( they had a demonstrator back in a 1996 Max power issue, burgundy colour n plate) they sorted it out and i don't know the name of the chip but they have stopped doing superchips as they do not get the full potential out of the engine and rely on upping the boost too much, the Turbo is i believe a Universal turbos stage 3, i do have the spec sheet but, stage 0 is standard recon, stage 1 is simply a 360 bearing, stage two is a slightly larger more on that but the stage 3 has a larger housing with cut back rotor blades and a one less blade on the exhaust side so that it spins up a lot quicker (makes a bloody lot of noise), at the time this coversion happened lat year Turbo Technics who i trust 100% did not do a hybrid for the punto only for the UNO, but apparently they do now do Garrett T25 hybrid to dit the punto instead of the standard IHI unit (which apparently was first seen in the first of the subaru forresters!. bottom line is the spec sheet is honest and yes the head is an abarth unit which cost £962 in Vat, and they also do an abarth head for the Mk2 HGT as used in the HGT super tourer racing series in italy, But in answer to main question do you know of any clubs, PS we know the guy who had the purple GT that was in all the magagzines a year ago , you know the one with that huge like it or loath front bumper.

    Hi,

The IHI RHB5-VL7 is the standard unit in the PuntoGT. AFAIK 3 press cars had garretts in them, all running slightly higher boost for mag tests (hence how they did a 7.6 0-60).

The IHI-RHB5-VL7 has a 360° thrust bearing as standard!!!!!!! This is the turbo that is shared by Subarus, but was sold by turbo technics as a hybrid turbo for the Uno turbo as they can flow enough for 160hp. But life is reduced.

Reducing the number of blades ADDS to lag.

Turbo Dynamics' hybrid, for some unknown reason only uses a 5 pale impellor (39.11) in a machine out original IHI casing. With cut back exhaust blades to lighten them. The original uses 6 blades! Mine has 7 for example.

Mapping - you can map the original ECU if your still running within a t25 (t2 exhaust flange turbo) but unfortunately people want your money and try to sell you some piggy back stuff that supposedly can be mapped.... With bosch ECU you can map to hold 1.2bar and make ~150hp and 165lbs torque on a standard car. Drivability is sooo much improved. Your typical person likes a big overboost kick (overpsin) and unfortunately whilst feeling fast the rest of the rev range is slow.

Ps, what about Matt Vernon ?
