magnex dtm mot failure

my punto is in the garage for mot on tuesday
the own has already told my that it will fail on the exhaust because it ticks over at 113db

so now i will have to go to kwik fit and pay 122 quid on a standard exhaust to pass the mot

has anyone else had this problem?

tick over at 113db are you sure?? thats extrememly loud, louder than most cars on boost at full chat

a few months ago i had a db test at the garage and the reading was 113db
the bloke said whole s**t
stick a spud up there

he did say he might pass it providin the other mechanic is happy with it

113 db is bollocks, sorry. At what range is that being measured.

I only know this because the likes of Silverstone have a limit on trackday weekends (run your own car) of 103 db at 45 degrees to the exhaust and at a range of 0.5 metres @ 3/4 revs (iirc this is correct or close to).

Iirc, my old man's old Caterham produced 94 db, 0.5 metres, 45 degrees to the exhaust @ 5,500 revs.

I'd be very surprised that this is correct - in fact, I don't believe it, that can't be tick over!

My old exhaust was a shortened straight through, 3" side exit and they never batted an eyelid.

the test was done on a nokia mobile phone so where they give a true reading or not i done know

Absolute rubbish I think. Certainly not 113 db.

Done on the phone - are you sure you didn't drive into a big red and white tent, and the guy with the phone wasn't dressed in big red shoes, baggy pants and a shiny red squeaky nose.
