Turbos add power.
When tuning a NA to get >100hp/l the revs just get silly. And I dont see no 2litre Ford revving to 19000rpm everyday to make 800hp other than it being an F1 engine lasting 200 miles.
Turbos certainly are the ONLY way forward for real power from small displacements and they certainly are cheaper to do than NA tuning.
Compare the costs of taking a 2l NA to 800hp without Turbo charging vs 2l turbo to 800hp.
This is why people who favour NA will never actually beat a turbo in a straight line.
Theyre not the best on a track perhaps, but if your buying a punto your not wanting to go round bends.
Your especially not buying the HGT to go fast in a straight line either.

Welcome to the site Ben
Ignore the bitches on here man, they like to chat a lot of shiit, the XR sounds rude, how far have you got with it??
I think I'll pick and choose which people's posts to read and which not. It's pretty simple to figure out what's worth what!
The engine's more or less built up, in the garage. I say more or less as I'm still awaiting the pistons and Rods to turn up from the U.S. (works out at HALF the price of buying them in the UK, even with import duties)
But the main mods (to make the CVH head fit the ZETEC block) are all done, as is all the skimming and refacing etc. The head's been built up with the cam and the custom lifters. So just needs the internals, then bolting up.
The shell is in the throes of fabrication at the minute. But, weather permitting, It'll be done in about 2 months. There's **** loads to stitch weld, then there's the fabricating of all new outer and inner arches to take the Rally arches (will allow a 5" drop when it's done though )
So, It's fair to say that it's not NEAR completion yet, but it's close-ish
Should easily be good for 170bhp @ the wheels. Guessing 0-60 in 5.5 seconds? 1/4 mile is one I'd rather not speculate on, but I'm hoping to hit low 14's. Not amazingly quick...but not slow. It should slay EVERYTHING when it hits the corners though!
Ooooh, look at me go on and on and on and on and on and on!
the reason i think people Favour the GT over the HGT is because how safe it is engine wise to tune them, GT are at 200 bhp with a few mods.
i'm unsure what bhp HGT's have been taken to but i know they are not the best engine fiat ever produced, i've heard of at least 3 people putting rods through the block.
so unless you want to spend money making the engine stronger i.e. steel rods, crank, forged pistons then there isn't a lot you can do really to "tune" the HGT engine.
I have driven an HGT and found it nice to drive as stanard but i wouldn't really do much to the engine.

It's easy-ish to dump a 1.4 turbo engine into a lesser punto. But modifying a smaller engine, yes it's unlikely you'll get the same power output and hell it'll cost you more BUT it's got more chance of being unique and there'll be a lot more love goes into it.

im all for tuning a GT etc but i think tuning one of the N/A engines would be more unique...
oh and by the way, welcome to the forum matey!
I think what some people are forgetting that to tune a turbo'd engine properly you need to first tune the block in the same manner as an n/a engine, THEN go onto bigger turbo's even, more fuelling etc Thats is the pro way to go coz there are no short cuts (like bleed valves) for N/A engines
Pornstarr, the bodywork sounds as mental as the engine! You aint doin shiit by halves are ya

Definately not Kas.
Thats the whole idea of the project though. With Nova's and other such cars getting so much faster. And with more fiesta boys going for turbo engines, I'm trying to break a little ground back in the N/A department. And knowing it'll never make the same straightline speed or power as a turbo engine is making me push more for the handling. Whilst there's loads of fun to be had in accelerating past lots of cars, I think there's still more to be had in going round corners much much quicker.
With 170bhp in a shell that's gonna weigh about 750kg it's certainly not gonna be shy! And if I get bored, there's always a touch of Nitrous, higher compression.....and Crazier cams (though a full race cam will be last on my list. Waiting till 4k for power wont be much fun in the traffic )
