Howdy.
As you may or may have not guessed, I am new. Congratulations me.
I've not got a punto as yet, but I'm seriously considering buying one, so figured this'd be a good place to start.
At the minute I drive a more or less standard mk2 XR2 (Except I've resprayed it, S2 ERST wheels, Wilwood 4pot brake upgrade, Magnex 4 branch manifold + system, upgraded and rejetted carb, Gaz suspension and stupid uprated springs, stripped out with 88 spec ERST recaros....and lots more that I cant be arsed to recite!)
Oh, and I'm building what is effectively a tarmac spec XR for every day road duties! As stupid as that sounds.
2.1 litre ZVH hybrid engine (Steel rods + pistons)
Race spec CVH head with Bespoke cam + solid lifters
Yamaha R1 Carbs on bespoke inlet manifold
Megajolt fully mappable ignition management + modified XR2i EDIS unit + coil pack etc.
Fully rose jointed suspension
Height adjustable coil overs all round
Rear disc conversion (along with the 4 pots from the front)
Fibreglass bonnet + boot
Poly carb windows.
Stage 2 ERST LSD gear box
Bespoke 4 branch, pulse tuned manifold + 2 1/4" race system
15" Pro race 1.2's
And again....a whole lot more that I just cant be bothered recite.
Anyway, long story short. I'm rapidly losing patience with the project. Not only because it's taking so long, but also due to the cost (once it's all tallied up, we'll be talking stupid money). Then there's the wanting of something a bit newer.....namely a Mk2 Punto HGT.
So yeah....any information on these cars that you could share would be excellent. Namely Performance figures. How they handle. Whats available in the way of Engine/suspension/brake upgrades+modifications. Oh, and how reliable they are!
Hello,
Cheers,
TTFN,
Ben

I wouldnt bother with a Punto Gt.
From what i've seen they're either all modified engine wise or have stupid body kits on. If i were to get a car, I'd want a mostly un-molested model, so I can start from scratch. That and they're only a 1.4, to which I see even less point. I could quite happily stick with the fiesta and go 2.0 turbo (either zetec or ZVH), which would easily allow me 300bhp and the potential addition of anti-lag!
Plus, I really dig the fresher styling of the later Punto HGT.

ahhhhhh. I understand now.
I've had a quick look around and it seems that a few people on here are what I might call 'turbo retarded' In that you've no idea what N/A tuning is all about. Tis a shame that you're so willing to while your life away getting cheap, boring, laggy power. There's no real challenge there now, is there?
