XP Home - BSOD - anyway to spring clean?

My usage of WinMX is starting to take its toll on my second computer! I have an Amilo Pro machine and I have a feeling that since it has started crashing the desktop icons have gained rough / jagged edges. I'm sure they were smooth when I first had it.

The laptop has lasted a good while without crashing but has now started to crash due to serious errors on a regular basis. It appears to be when Im using winMX (which is all the time it is on ) and I get a blue screen of death and it automatically restarts.

Is there anyway of looking at the logs and identifying / fixnig what is causing the problem?

I know a fall back option is to do a new install, I have the reset discs but that means losing all my files - some are too large for CD ROMs.

    Cheers

    Start>Settings>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer

Check the application error logs, there will be a few errors that are normal, but check the ones that happen at the times uve had the BSOD.
