How much are 172's going for? I like them and would consider one next.
Well, my bro is having the GT off me at the weekend, so I want another car. Don't want to spend any more than 6k, as I'm saving for stuff.
I want a newer car, (about 2000 onwards) and I'm stuck. I don't really want to go slower, and want reasonable fuel consumption, so there's limited options.
Short list.
172
HGT (bit slower but cheap)
206 GTi (again slower)
Cupra (decent ones more than 6k and don't wanna spend any more)
Considered a 20v coupe, but for 6k, you are looking at 60k plus, and wouldn't want a higher mileage car than what I've got.
So, what ya reckon? I'm thinking 172.

172 a good choice.
You can get a average milage ph1 172 for between 5k-6.5k now, as I don't like the ph2 as it's too girly.
hasn't the phase 2 got 182bhp?
How about a MG ZR 1.8 VVC 160, you can do a lot with them and there well within budget
Def get the 172 best choice alround...
the father of one of the guys at work is sellin his 2000 plate dark met green civic vti... not new shape... 160bhp, 35k miles or sumthing silly, 17" OZ superleggera's, subtle tints. Thats it standard and probly never hammered coz he's an old fella... he's asking for £5k but i reckon he could be knocked down easy.
I would have had it if Fat Bitch didnt have my hands tied behind me back eh... :-x
No, that's the 182. There's the ph1 172, ph2 172, then the 182.Originally Posted by turbotastic

The 172 seems to fit into what I want.
Kas, get the civic! If it wasn't in manc, I'd be interested. Unfortunately, the 3-dr 1.6 vti is few and far between around here.
JTD mk2 for about 2.5k then a few quid on a remap and some suspension
