Having just bought a data cable for my Samsung off ebay and it turning out to not work, I'd say skip going to China and pop down your carphone warehouse. £30 and it WILL work immediately.

The China cable cost me £6 which I have been refunded - I told the seller that it wasnt working and that it would cost me more money to post it back to them to check if it was broken. The refunded straight away no problems.
