Sounds a driver issue, you wanna be using direct sound output.
Install the latest Direct X Drivers, also check for any (!) marks in your device manager.
If your using winamp, options>prefs>plugins>output.
why now i have reinstalled my machine, are my mp3's jumpy?
plays back ok, loads ok, runs ok, but the sound "stutters" and more so when cpu\ hd usage is up.
any ideas?
was thinking its something to do with bus mastering?

Is it onboard sound?
If its a PCI soundcard, then try swapping the slots, or checking for IRQ conflicts.
its on board, but so was my last one and that was ok,
its the same in winamp and media player, grrrr
i was getting the same with the onboard sound on my motherboard so i bought a cheap 5.1 surround PCI card.

yeah could be that, i'll put up with it for now.
doom 3 sound is ok though...
i am convinced its something to do with my hard drives.
copying between the two is so slow.
i may swap them around the bus so both the HD's are on the 1, and the cds on the other, i havent done it yet as i couldnt be arsed....
hmm...
they play ok from my c drive, just not from the e.
i'll swap them tomorrow and report back.
