any lack of compression could be down to other problems though...

a compression test will only tell you if something is worn...not what is worn

ie low compression - but the low comp could be a slightly bent valve, leaky valve etc.... but 9 out of 10, is something is wrong its rings... so its worth doing.

Spark plug out, compression tester thing in spark plug hole, turn the engine over a couple of times and you should get a reading. Repeat for each cylinder.

it says error 404 or sumink.

my concern re doing the test is the hgt has individual coilpack's and the plugs are about 6 inches into the block

Yea a lot of modern engines have the coilpacks instead of leads and the plugs really far down.

Should be fine with a run of the mill compression tester though.
