a GT2 can be a GT1 or a GT3 can tell by the idle control valve on the rocker cover (GT1) on the inlet (GT3)

You can't actually tell if it's been played about with, mines a gt3 but I'm using gt1 inlet an icv so to anyone's eye it's a gt1

There are ways to tell the difference if you strip the engine down from what I have read

Quick check would be on the ECU numbers. But as mentioned, if the head or pistons have been changed for a different type then the compression would be different!

    1. 93-95 without immo code, ECU 099
    2. 95-97 with immo code, ECU 841
    3. 97-99 with immo code, ECU 159
