    turbo recon

    hi guys
i sent my t2554r turbo off for a recon at turbo centre. i told the guy on the phone what turbo it was and that it was passing oil with only an ever so slight play. really the turbo is in not that bad a condition just me wanting the best for the old girl. any way they phoned me today and said that they were not aware it was a ball bearing turbo and they could not servies it. i said thats fine send the turbo back to me which they said was no problem. i put the phone down.

two minutes later the phone rings and it the manager of the company, he explained what the previous guy had said and tried to sell me a new turbo wich i declined. so again i said send the turbo back and i will use it until i find some one who can do a recon on it. to which he replied you wont beable to use it as we have taken it apart, and they cant put it back together because it will be in worse condtion than what i sent it in. not a happy bunny. i told the guy i would ring tomorrow.
my question is is this normal procedure when you send a turbo in or am i been done. sorry for the lengthy right up but want you guys to no the full story

If they had any clue they should have known what turbo it was and if they could actually repair it before they even take it apart.

If it was me, id want the turbo back exactly how they received it, If not then they need to replace it with something alike or of the same spec.

I've never been in you're shoes before, however to me it sounds like that company are not professional at all. If you clearly told them what unit it was before you sent it in, who ever you spoke to should have told you they will have to make sure they can repair your turbo before taking it on. Get the feeling they have bad communication in that work place.

Not trying to rub salt in the wound when I say this, when I want something done or purchase from a company I have never used before I tend to look for reviews before i go any further. If they have a website I always look for their terms and conditions.

These people are brilliant, its part of citizens advice, they will open a case and tell you how to proceed, and you will get a case number, sometimes when you tell a business you have sought advice and to prove it here is the case number they will back straight down, and of course the service is free

sounds like a scam that The Engine Centre were exposed for on telly recently. people with engine problems took their cars in told its this this and this and would cost this to repair then after dropping the cars off they would ring the customer to say that they have discovered the engine needs more work than they originally thought and to continue they need a further payment of xyz or you can come and collect your car from them which is now in 4000 pieces. many never saw their cars again in one piece. they would return them if the customer wasnt prepared to pay up.

for all you know they might jetwash your g2554r and sell it on later as recon - youve given those idiots a free turbo to sell - like you said it wasnt that bad with minimal play. i put money on them shafting you this way rather than the **** and bull about them not being able to reassemble it without wrecking it. youve got absolutely nothing to show for it and i do feel sorry for you. can you go them and ask for the bits back? take someone withyou so you are not press ganged into buying something you dont want to buy.

proper tossers these people by the sounds of it........
    presumably
