    front hub nut removal GT

well heres a first for me. actually snapped off the 1/2 square drive from an extension bar using a 36mm socket trying to crack off the hub nuts today on a GT. man they must be welded on. the joker who did the wheel nuts up must have done these up too.

ive tried applying heat to the nuts and using a pole about 1.5ft long. no joy. maybe a 6 ft pole is in order!

any other tips because presumably if i just nip off the allen bolts at the inner ends of the shafts im never gonna get them off at the hub end?.......cant seem to get my 36mm socket onto the nut that much. as you try and apply pressure it sort of twists itself off the nut.

ive tried chiselling the crap out of the nuts after applying heat still no joy.

any advice on removing these buggers bar an impact airgun which i aint got.

I bought a deep impact 36mm socket, ground the edges right down so it would fit all the way to the back of the hub nut. I then used a 2ft breaker bar with a 3 foot scaffold pole on the end of it. Came off easily. I also found I had to tap the socket on with a hammer to get it to sit nice and tight. I assume you are using the space saver so the car is on the ground when you undo?

We had to use a modified impact socket to get it to fit into the hub properly. then as said above used a 2ft breaker bar with a large pole and jumped up and down on it till it came undone

The hub nuts have little pinch tabs that bite the thread iirc to stop them moving. Have you released those. I just used a rattle gun lol

Spacesaver 100% allows the socket through.

rattle gun would be the boy undoubtedly......
yeah released the tab from the key notch.
got 3ft of bar today from the local scrappy. should be long enough to do the job. will try and grind the socket down a bit too for a better fit.
