Any one please.
hiya My punto GT2 has just started pressurising the cooling system. its fine on idle, but when driving it pressurises the header tank and gobs coolant out!
I replaced the head gasket a few thousand miles ago with a pattern one, and re-used the original head bolts. i didnt bother getting the head skimmed, as the only reason i changed it was because it developed a slight oil leak between the head and the block. on inspection the gasket had just gone hard and started to split between an oil-way and the outside edge. is there any other reason for this cooling issue, other than the gasket? there is no reason it should have gone, but i cant explain why else the cooling system would be pressurising under load?
Many thanks, Clinton.
Any one please.
Have you tried another cap as a starting point.
The bolts are stretch bolts and should have been replaced
Yep should have replaced the stretch bolts Clinton for a start.
Should prob see about doing a sniff test to check HG again.
I had original head bolts and according to the book I have said they can be re used up to three times. There is a strong smell of fuel in the header tank which would suggest the hg has gone between bore and water way???
Could also be a cracked head
I guess we live and learn. Will be taking the head off tomorrow
For the price of bolts its good practice to renew them. My guess would be head gasket or cracked head .
