Cheers lads some good advice from you all
He text me again saying he's very serious and either a swop or cash is fine.
As said i would not take the civic for exchange for the evo. Civic is common and as such will loose money fast. Not knowing much about the Evo but guessing at that mileage and age its not going to loose any money now? Also those civics arent up to much, been in one and while it achieved license loosing speeds in a short space of time....it felt so under whelming. Boring even.
Also owning a car for that long....wow as sickskate said, i would find it hard to let go. I know its only a car but you know the ins and outs of it and its history etc.

Take the cash and finish the Punto mate lol.
£8.5 is almost low considering the mileage but doesn it have a stamped service book etc?
My Pal HRG sold his silver 6 to a guy from Holland for £8k, it was on about 80k miles though.
