I'd go for a GT3 engine every time. Higher compression so better off boost driveability.

So looking toget my GT back on the road with the 1.4 returning a strong possibilty now, sick of looking for 2.0 coupes and being messed about twice on that 2ltr Punto im swaying back to the original heart.
Obviously mine was a GT3 engine which i prefer tbh but what of the older style GT1 and 2 lumps, slightly more bhp but quirky ICV's.
Is it possible to change the older style inlet mani for a gt3 jobbie and change the engine loom and throttle cable possition?
or just dump a gt1/2 lump in as is and be done if a good one turns up?

no reason why you carnt move the gt1 icv to somewhere else in the bay very. thats on my list of jobs to do.
As such there is no "GT2" engine, there is only either the early low compression (176A4000) or later high compression (176B6000) engine.
The GT2's can have either depending on their age
Again i thought that too, was meerly covering all ages of the GT range.
For me its either ICV on the top or on the rocker as with the early engines.
Their entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong they may be lol
Theres 3 types of ecu but only two engines, the first generation ecu not having the inmobiliser.
Also in answer to the original post, inlet manifold will swap straight over, loom doesn't need to be changed, throttle cable can be changed albeit a bit fiddly
May have a gt1 bottom end I'm gonna build up with fresh bearings, rings, seals etc some time in a few months
