    hello from New Zealand

hi every one my names Casey , im a trade qualified mechanic here in nz. A work mate and i brought a punto gt mk1 from a guy in town and decided to see how fast we could make it go using bit and bobs that we had laying about in our sheds . we have both have a fair bit of knowledge on how to make things fast so we set our budget low. for 500 nz dollars including buying the car and making it road legal we wanted to see how fast we could go. our first drag meet we done a 15.2 , after that we decide that we would install a megasquirt in it that was left over from another project and see what kind of power increase we could get , the factory ecu had a chip from a company in the uk i cant remember the brand. at our second meet we ran a 14.4 but we had boost issues and the head gasket poped then our budget grew a little bit we have now set aside 1000 nz dollars which is still only around 500£. so far the car has a side exit 2.5inch exhaust system, megasquirt 1 on v3.0 board, a t28 garrett from a gtir pulsar, injectors from a turbo porsche 944 i think, a huge intercooler 550x310x120, ported head , bigger cam with 9.85mm lift maybe from an x19 fiat. on friday night we decided we would have a look at why the engine seem to have abit of blow by and done a compression test to find on cylinder had on 70psi and the rest were 140 so off came the head again only to find one of the valve seats had distorted which explained the lack of compression but not the blow buy so we striped the engine down to find that it has broken ring lands in 3 of the pistons and all the top rings had spaned and the 2nd rings looked like they were the wrong size and had flogged out the middle of the ring, so now its looking abit grim for the poor wee thing we have 280 nzd left of our budget and have to rebuild alot of the engine oh well we will see what happens

ill put some pics up later

hahaha yea so far its been a little anoying to get bits but i work at a specialist in euro cars (not common here) so i have a few contacts that can help , but we tend to have to make do with what we can scrounge up.

the next drag meet is feb 10th and we still need to build and re-tune so fingers crossed
