A mangled spanner
what method you use to push the buckets down ,or do i need a shim tool ?? any links
A mangled spanner
i was going to heat a screw driver up an bend the tip ,will try spanner aswell
Are you doing the shims with the engine complete and in the car? Or on a bench?
If its in the car then all you need is a flat head screwdriver
Haha i have just been thinking the same ,i did use a mangled/shaped piece of steel last time but it was crap.
Looing for a more reliable way so am also think on the modded spanner idea, dont seem to have a perfect screw driver, mine get get caught on the shim.
How are your clearences with the kent cam,and was it a blank or re profile?
I am getting around 4.10-4.15mm shim sizes for most of mine with a blank, trouble is most of my larger shims are only 4mm doh, proberly going to order some from ebay.
Any flat head screwdriver will work fine, only needs to hold the edge of the bucket down against the camshaft.
I used the cam to push the bucket down, then jam the bucket down with the screwdriver, levered against the cam, and hold it there while rotating the camshaft 180 degrees so the lobe points away from shim. Very easy to do once you get the hang of it.
its was set up on a bench ,but after tlqing the head down there out
i used a 8mm spanner in the end ground it down an scalloped some out of it so sit under the cam profile
