What's the justification of them, surely they counter economy (slightly due to width) and comfort which is the two main tick boxes?

It's the RDesign variant. It's the one with Sports suspension, 18's, body kit, strut brace, etc. not a typical grandad Volvo. It's also the 2.0 5 cylinder diesel which isn't the most economical but offers a "best of both" performance vs. economy.

To me the standard Volvo's look a bit plain and boring and I wanted one with a sportier feel to it.

Think Simon is on wider wheels but not rubber, because having stretched tyres is cool on Evos...

But he doesn't use that poor car so his participation isn't valid...

Reading back through the past 10 pages or so makes me chuckle .. OT much?

    Any back on topic:

I had a bit of a piss on over Christmas with the electrical system failing (Heavy Rain .. French car - I was worried) involving a 5 miles drive at night in the rain with the battery rapidly dieing. No heater, windows, headlights, wipers, power steering - all good fun.

Long story short it turned out my alternator belt had slipped off. Bit more digging showed the crank pulley was working loose (the bolt was finger tight when I found it). It also started seeming apparent that after my 280 mile motorway journey the fuel economy wasn't what it should be, but more on that...

Due to the pulley being loose it had basically shagged itself, which meant sourcing a new pulley - an item not generally kept in stock my Renault. Especially on the 27th December! But I got one - what they didn't tell me was that the bolt was a stretch bolt so I couldn't fit the pulley. No local motor factors could get the bolt and neither could Renault in any great hurry - but I was due to be heading back down south already by this point. Thankfully Si and his mate Andy stepped in and found out they come with a kit on lesser models. So a very scary 20 mile drive to theirs to get this fitted also revealed my timing was out, with one of the cams being slightly retarded. Quick call to the engine builder he wasn't aware of it either. We left the timing out for the time being but repaired the rest and I went on my merry way.

Now really it looks like these guys were muppets, they've timed it wrong without realising and the mapping they have done is sub par. I'll be taking action against them if they don't refund me significant money but in the mean time I'm going to have to bite the bullet and take it elsewhere for a full mapping session (plus the timing altered!). So I've bought this (60mm core):

With a cat back(which I Don't have) it should see anywhere from 330-350bhp (Yes Si the cams / turbo have ran this on a couple of cars). Not sure what I'll make though ... find out in a month or so!
