Day one of Megane ownership..

    Is not going well

Ran perfectly on the test drive and inspection at his house.

Twenty miles home seems fine (although first time driving it so distracted obviously). Then..

1.Mysterious smoke coming out of the back under any type of boost. Either white or blue ... probably white.

2.Mysterious smoke/mist coming from the engine bay noticed at idle, seems to be intermittent and has no real smell.

Previous owner of course knows nothing about it never had these issues.

So .... anyone know a decent mechanic in the Watford area?

    DCi <LOL!!!

Smoke on boost could be the turbo, could be nothing also, you'll have to drive it abit more to see.

Any particular side of the engine bay giving off smoke?

Nice choice Cal. Smoke coming from the engine bay is odd, exhaust could be turbo as above. Need to look at it or get someone to have a look.

Get some pics of the car up when you can.

Has to be turbo if it's smoking on boost really?

Just seems to be the lower engine bay and fairly evenly distributed.

Day two started worse. An unknown neighbour had blocked me in completely and I couldn't find them.

    Blessing in disguise.

Don't even have the heart to update with today's problems as I know i'll just get laughed at / looked down upon for buying a dog.

The fingers crossed for it being something simple are getting looser by the second..

Isn't there some sort of protection you now have if you buy a car privately and it breaks instantly?

If the seller has mislead you about the second hand car.

If something you buy is not ‘as described’, or if the seller is guilty of misrepresentation, you are entitled to:

give the second hand car back and get your money back, or
if you want to keep the car, ask for compensation (usually the cost of any repairs it needs)

However, if you buy a second hand car that was not described as being in excellent condition or good working order, and it breaks soon after you buy it, you do not have any right to reject it, or to claim compensation.

Some unscrupulous second hand car dealers might pretend to be private sellers to get out of their legal obligations. If you think a dealer is trying to pretend they're a private seller, do not buy from them and report them to the local trading standards department.

Do you have the ad where you saw it for sale?

Remember though even if buying from a dealer, they must be given chance to repair the car, ie you must return it, and one that many don't know about is, if you carry on driving the car you are in fact accepting the problems!
If it was a private sale and you drove the car first it is buyer beware!
