Speak to dean, and see what's involved. But you will want gearbox as well as its a 6 speed box. IIRC, the mk1 1.2 sporting, was the fastest production 1.2 at time of release.

There should be loads of sporting running gear about, as obviously poeple pull them out and convert to GT, just food for thought

Your put off doing a gt conversion. However thier is more than enough info on here on how to do it.

I think if you prepped well enough you and steve could even have it done in a weekend.

I wouldnt have a clue, we dont have the tools or space, but i am a bit more positive about doing it thanks to you and todders il ring our car guy who does the stuff we cant and chat to him about it

Can I advise that you use someone like Dean instead. Only reason is that there are very few people that know mk1 puntos like he does. He will be cheapest, most experienced and most efficient.
