Its been a while since i updated this thread but things are moving along.

The first job was to take out the old engine and prepare the bay ready to be strengthened and seem / stitch welded.

    Engine out

We made some gusset plates to strengthen around were the steering rods come out of the engine bay as this is were it had cracked before and welded them in.

We then seem welded the upper half of the engine bay and stitch welded the rest.

I made some plates so that the chassis leg support bar could be welded on instead of bolted on.

Then we tied the leg support bars to the inner wing just for added strength, you might not be able to see but at the bottom of the support were its welded to the leg we put another gusset in to triangulate the bottom whilst we were there.

I then bought some roll cage tubing and fabricated the feet ready to fit the inner wing support bars, the tubing was then cut to size and welded in.

Were thinking about linking the cage with the inner wing supports and the suspension turrets but will probably do that at a later stage.
The next step will be to paint the engine bay and get the new engine in and running.

Awesome! How did I miss this the first time around?? Nice work, although I'm no pro I think your wire speed might be a touch too fast.

Cheers for the comments, the welder was quite hard to set up as the metal was so thin in places but i see what you mean. It feels alot stiffer now especially the inner wings, you could flex them by hand were the steering arms come out of the bay before lol.

Its been a while since i last up dated, progress has been slow due to having alot to do on the punto amongst other things.

The engine bay is painted and the engine is in now although i don't have any pics of it yet, but here are a few of the engine bay being shot blasted, i would not recommend having this done inside a garage as 10 months later were still finding parts covered in dust lol

We have fitted a new rad and slimline fan, we have also made a bracket up to hold the davies and craig water pump, once that is done we will be ordering the coolant hoses for the engine and getting it plumbed in.

    Hopefully update with more soon

Managed to get a few more pics, forgot to mention that we had to make up a new plate for the throttle linkage.

This is the water pump mounted to the bracket that we made, it needs some final adjustment as it sits a bit close to the engine.

    New rad and slimline fan

Inner wings coated with two coats of epoxy mastic

Engine bay painted and 16v crossmember powder coated

    Engine sat in the bay
