The original 'fat' consoles are, the newer slims are a lot better
Never had a ps3, are they really likely to break?
For the record, I've had my ps2 12 years (at a guess) and its used frequently and still going strong.

Had my PS3 for about 4 or 5 years with no problems.
Count yourself lucky, mine died in the middle of a modern warfare 2 marathon just after it was released :\
Not luck, mate, just good ventilation.
Oh, and the fact that I'm an electronics engineer, and I know how to look after my gear!
Mate i know my way around electronics too, and my PS3 couldn't have had better ventilation, yet it still died. How often do you use yours?
What model have you got out of curiousity? I had the 60Gb launch model when they were first released.
Use mine 2-3 hours daily, and more at weekends. I've got the 40Gb Phat, upgraded to 250Gb, and running a 250Gb external drive for fillums, music n stuff.
The trick with the phats, is to regularly clear any fluff from the vent holes, and NEVER have it on a carpet, or suchlike.
TBH, in over 20 years of being an electronics engineer, and longer being a games freak, the only console that I have had that has gone T.U., was the Xbox 360. What a piece of badly made shyte that is!
My Gen 1 PS3 has always been fautless although I will admit I only use it a couple of times a week. My friend got through 2, before going onto a slim one as he plays all the time.
If mine broke I'd try and fix it though, just because the early PS3s look so much cooler imo!
Also defo worth investing in an air duster to clear the vents on any electronic appliance once every few months
What he said!
