    Your first "poverty" car

Just for a laugh, I thought I'd try this...

The first car I ever owned, taxed and insured myself was one of these Riley Elfs. Mine was dark blue all over, had no chrome bumpers and a custom dash, 5.5J banded steel wheels on crossplys and a warmed-over MG 1100 engine with (horror of horrors) single leading shoe drums on the front! A veritable deathtrap in many ways. At least it and I survived long enough to get a couple of years' NCB.

One of the best cars I ever owned, the Super Grape!

Given to me by a fellow PSC member who was going to scrap it, needed an MOT, had been rolled into its side before hand.

Drove me all over Europe and the UK in only a few months, could do 100mph just about, only broke twice, clutch gave out while in Amsterdam, still made it back home being unable to change down the gears... ANd a CV broke when I handbraked into a mates driveway, other than that it was bullet proof while being a heap all at the same time.

Thread about its life here: some pictures are old and need re-linking though

mini 850cc with hammerite paintwork. cost me £250 and probably twice that to keep it running in 12 months. remember driving it for a week with only my handbrake for stopping as all the brake cylinders had no fluid in! mad.

pile of dog doo but it had a radio, a good heater and it was better than taking the bus!

Well if you purchased it and never drove it, sat on a driveway then sold it on or scrapped it it hasn't served its purpose as a car so may aswell have been a giant paper weight lol
