That's an awesome idea.
I think we paid about £400 for a 3m one with a built in fan.
Using a hair dryer, a halogen bulb holder and a halogen bulb!
Really easy, just had to open it up to find the live and neutral wires then connect it to the bulb holder, then fit the 50w halogen bulb, I then simply siliconed it in place at the end of the dryer. Stupidly bright and will be great for finding the swirls when I'm detailing and using the rotary polisher. I'm doing my mums Honda Jazz soon that's swirled to hell.
Got a few pics of it in action...

I stole the idea from detailing world. Haha.
works a treat though and cost me around £3 as the hair dryer was a random find in the cupboards.
Wicked mate! I saw this posted on DW earlier in the year, I cba making one though! I use a Brinkmann torch as my swirl spotting device.
If you have any car care related questions, ask me in the Cleaning/Detailing section.
Why not just use a normal torch or lead lamp etc
Just because the Halogen bulb shows the swirls a hell of a lot better than a conventional torch would.
