Ive got two LG 42" LCD's that weve had for about 2 years with not a single problem.

Picture is lovely, PS3 looks the bollox on it with the HDMI cable and they did'nt break the bank either.

i have a 32" Samsung LCD, 1366x768, MPEG2 DVB-T, more than 3+ years old, no problem with it
my parents has 32" LG LCD, 1366x768, MPEG4 DVB-T, 2+ years old, also had no any problem

When i bought my LCD, i've noticed the JVC LCDs had the best picture IMHO in that times, but had 1.7x price as the Samsung in the same resultion, no worth it

Anyway, whatever big is the resultion of the screen, the common HD is just 1280x768

sometimes the sellers cheating within the TV's menu, configured a type a bit better and the rest a bit dicky, to show more differencies between the two as it really is

Only thing you can do is try out as many in as many shops as possible. Clearly many people in this thread are unknowingly biased...

We designed and manufacture Panasonics OEM wall brackets so we have had every 2010 and 2011 model and chassis through our doors, they are fantastic to look at and quite robust but poorly packaged if anything....

Don't be fooled by the LED jargon, as said they're not LED displays simply another form of LCD. Ther're all LED backlit LCD displays, so not as special as people make out. Although obviously, some are exceptionally brilliant to look at... Samsung D7xxx, D8xxx and D9xxx series TVs for example...

Don't rule out plasmas, when you start to go large, plasma screens perform better, if you're going over 50inch, a plasma should be in equal running with more contemporary set ups, why do you think companys still make plasmas? They're often a lot lighter now too and better packaged.

As Minifreak has said, margins play a part in what any sales man will go through with you, they will have an agenda. Margins on TVs are tosh, even at the primary distributor level...

Im in the market for a new TV but in no rush... Collegue at work has just bought a passive LG 3DTV, only a 42" but he says its brilliant, just static glasses that don't cost a bomb or need to be charged etc.

A bloke from the high-technology department at Europes largest TV distributor where I visit weekly suggested Sharp to me for the best picture... food for thought!

Dunno lol, had it well over 18 months I think now so the way tech advances there is probably a much better replacement out now for what I payed? Not sure about all the technical stuff, all I know is mine is has a much better picture than anyone elses 40" TV I've seen. The dark colours is where it really shows, my TV can actually display BLACK lol.

    Ok ok ok.

We have just purchased a new Panasonic 42" LED.

Needless to say I took the Panasonic advice on board as its the only brand that wasn't slated.

Many thanks for the advice, I'm gonna let my boy lose soon with his mucky fingers, so no doubt it will be filthy in no time.
