How to check for a healthy engine?

Is there anymore that can be done to check if an engine is running ok, the checks I know of are,

Compression test
Any leaks (water/oil)

Any other checks I can do?

Emissions, coolant pressure test/leak down test and a blink test

I can't do a blink test lol the engine light is always on!! Even when I try and test it it just stays lit, what am I looking for on the spark plugs?
